Horse Care Lessons

What the course entails

We will demonstrate for you on another horse how to groom, and prepare a horse to be ridden. Each participant will have use of a horse or pony if they do not have a horse of their own agisted with us. We will expect you to follow what we are showing you and perform the same on the horse you are in charge of.

We will explain how to get the best out of your horse on the ground, and show you how to keep your horse calm, and how to avoid nasty habits developing during saddling.

We will explain how to treat minor injuries, and how to examine your horse to ensure it is in good health, and when to call the vet. We will also show you how to worm your horse, and teach you some preventative health strategies. We will explain about hoof care, farriers and dentists.

We will give you guidance on how to catch a horse, and how to get a horse on to a horse float.

We will demonstrate how to care for your saddlery, explain brushes, rugs, and bandages.

We will advise you how to feed a horse, nutrition, supplements, type of hay, and how and when to feed.

We will answer your questions, and If you have an email address we will forward you some links to very helpful web sites about horse health, care and riding techniques.

The course costs

This is a two part course, each course is an hour long approximately, as sometimes we run over time.
We take up to 4 participants at a time.

The cost is $25 per person per session, a total of $50 overall. We hold courses on any day that suits, and need a minimum of two people to run a course. If you would like to register for a course please phone me 07 5485 0766
